BACKGROUND: Biographical Info

Here are some of the key pieces of background information and profiles on Mr. Bluster, Chris Christie:

Deep Background:  Profiles from a Source Not Affiliated with Christie

Wikipedia, every school child's first source for information.  Maybe it's not quite as sanitized or slanted as the PR flacks would like it, but it does cover the waterfront.Granted, some in Trenton may not want everything to be included, but they have their own paid apparati to disseminate all the news that they see fit.

Then there is an oft-cited profile from New York Magazine "The Answer is No!" (yeah, I know, "those people" on the other side of the Hudson River).  But for now, it is one of the better sources of deep background on Chris Christie.

Stint as Federal Prosecutor

If you read the Deep Background section, you already know that before Christie became governor, he was a practicing attorney and lobbyist and then thanks to Karl Rove and George W. Bush he became the Federal Prosecutor for New Jersey in 2001.  But this ascendence was not without its speed bumps, as the following stories indicate"

Problem Arises for Top Aide (NY Times, 2-11-2002)

Prosecuting Is a Tough Job   (NY Times, 11-2-2002)

Then it never helps to have your brother named in an SEC indictment for insider trading along with 19 others.  Curiously, charges against him were dropped by the New York prosecutor, whose firm  later received a million dollar contract from the State of New Jersey in what appeared to many as a quid pro quo.

Brother Accused of Civil Fraud by SEC (NY Times 4-14-2005)

Many of Christie's successful, highly publicized convictions were begun several years prior to his appointment.  However, this did not discourage him from claiming credit when the cases were successfully prosecuted.  Such was not the case, when a case became unraveled, and he was quick to blame others:

Christie Finds Himself on the Defensive for Ashcroft Contract  (NY Times 2-13-2008)

The history of this contract with former Bush appointed Attorney General's law firm raised sufficient concern as to warrant a Congressional investigation.  But in typical fashion, Christie could not stand the heat, and peremptorily stood up and walked out!

For someone who frequently speaks about rooting out corruption, Christie also has engaged in some very unusual relationships that do beg the question:

Developer's Plea Deal Shadows Christie    (NY Times 8-12-2009)

Then there is the report about how Christie, while working for the AG's office, managed to amass some huge hotel bills, far in excess of the office guidelines while visiting Boston at the taxpayer's expense:

Excessive Hotel Expenditures    (NYTimes 11-8-2010)

The report cited stays in the $449-per-night Nine Zero Hotel in Boston and the $475-per-night Four Seasons Hotel in Washington. Both cost more than double the government rate for those cities. In all, Mr. Christie exceeded the lodging rate on 14 of 23 trips without adequate justification, billing taxpayers $2,176 in excess of the maximum normal rates.A spokesman for Mr. Christie declined to comment on the report...
